Almost 150 years ago, Matthias Homer, John Louty, Samuel McFadden and Frederick Gerker, merchants from Philadelphia, established our community with a vision of a convenient, prosperous town where the residents welcomed friends, neighbors and others in the community to their beautiful borough. Fast forward to today and Merchantville has become much of what our founders believed it would be, a welcoming community that is safe, walkable, convenient and provides a reprieve from grind of the day to day life.
As we kick off the celebration of the Borough’s sesquicentennial anniversary, it is important to look back and honor those who have made Merchantville what it is today, while simultaneously looking to our future and how we as a community will shape the future of Merchantville for generations to come.
That same drive that led Homer, Louty, McFadden and Gerker to establish the Borough in 1874 exists in the very fabric of our residents and leadership today and dictates that we move forward as a community, evolve as neighbors and continue to bring progress to the Borough. Over the next two years, we will be celebrating the history of the Borough while providing the vision for the future and revealing our achievements and progress in our community.
We kick off this celebration of 150 years of Merchantville with the Merchantville Gala, a roaring twenties themed gala that will be held at the Merchantville Community Center this June 4th.
